A Visit from the Incubus

You know when something is so bad that it's good. That's what I always feel after watching anything made by Anna biller. The melodramatic dialogue and acting, the bright coloured set and costuming, it's all just campy af. The fact that she's written, directed, produced, edited and designed all this herself makes these films feel like we're seeing HER, like a shes created a self portrait in the form of film. I love that even though her films are different from eachother they all have her signature style

Anna Biller’s work is so cloaked in irony that it can sometimes be hard to parse, but A Visit from the Incubus is so charming in its set design, intentionally wooden acting, and resolution (exorcising a demon through song and dance) that it is rewarding even in a superficial way.
