All these years, and I just found out that Lorne Michaels was one of this film’s producers. 🤯
I really loved this film throughout my childhood. One of my core memories is when I recorded its Disney Channel airing onto a vhs tape, and replaying the end credits religiously (kind of like I do now with my favorite scene from 127 Hours). This film’s end credits still are my favorite end credits ever. You can never go wrong with Jessica by The Allman Brothers Band.
To be honest, I’m shocked this film got a Blu Ray release. Even back then, I thought it was a tad obscure. I rarely ever see it mentioned anywhere. And it’s a shame because this film is so good. I honestly think it’s criminally underrated.
It has good performances all around, a young Michelle Williams, beautiful fall scenery and a pretty good score. Plus, Mason, the Collie that played Lassie, is one of the most gorgeous dogs I’ve ever seen in my life. Heck, he was prettier than most people!
I hope I can own my own Lassie one day.
