Forgotten horror movie challenge: 39/56letterboxd.com/lepyboy/list/forgotten-horror-movies-challenge/
This film had some twists and turns I wasn't expecting, but did they feel tacked on? The Gallows is a 2015 American found footage supernatural horror film written and directed by Chris Lofing and Travis Cluff. It uses the found footage format poorly, bringing nothing new or creative, and the shaky camerawork was distracting; the characters kept filming during moments that nobody would realistically keep filming in. I also didn't care for a single character, with Ryan Shoos' character, the obnoxious friend with the camera, being an extremely irritating protagonist. The supernatural thrills and scares were also poorly done. And now back to what I brought up at the start: the twists. They sucked. In a better movie, they would have been good, but they didn't even make sense. The acting was also meh to bad. I just feel like this was wasted potential. The film also occasionally dragged. What did I like about it, though? I thought the film made an exceptional use of such a teeny-tiny budget, and I thought the opening and premise were a creepy idea for a ghost story. Overall, The Gallows is a poorly written, poorly directed, poorly acted, poorly thought-out movie that lacks genuine terror.
