I went into Life expecting to learn more about James Dean and his relationship with Dennis Stock; instead, I got a dreary attempt at an insightful biopic that seemed to go on forever and ever. Robert Pattinson and Dane DeHaan give decent performances, but there's a huge issue with the pacing and writing (it took almost half of the film for the actual plot to get started). There's nothing very outstanding about the cinematography, either, and it just makes the film look so bland. Overall, not a film I particularly enjoyed, and not one I'd come back to, either.

This was fine. I know absolutely nothing about James Dean so maybe I would’ve gotten more out of this if I did. Trying to hear what Dane DeHaan was saying was a challenge in itself and the streaming service I was watching on didn’t have a subtitle option.
