Dean Martin is the most compelling part of this for me-- his whole character and arc I hand't seen in a Western before, the music reminds me of John Williams at moments.... I definitely prefer High Noon-- Walter Brennan is honestly very annoying in this.

All seriousness this film has a lot more sweet charm than a lot of the other westerns I’ve been watching and the cathartic ending felt very different compared to a film like Unforgiven (which I saw yesterday). There’s a lot to talk about with the card motif and other things I have written in my notes that I don’t want to write in a review at 1am.

Very calm movie and goddamn they all deserved Oscars.

Pardon the superficiality but damn I had no idea about Angie Dickinson… John Wayne does NOT come close to how beautiful she is holy shit. It was ALMOST as brutal a mog as Jane Greer to Robert Mitchum in Out of the Past.
