Mel Brooks’ bizarre off the wall style feels so different from other 60s Hollywood comedies, some still struggling to evolve from the screwball genre that worked so well in the 40s. This has elements of those, but incorporated a dark sense of humor that feels very much like the 70s coming on.

Mel Brooks rocket launched his career with this, defining instantly his brand of parody and absurdism that carried him through, and his legendary collaborations with Gene Wilder.

The Springtime For Hitler opening number had me dying. I look forward to revisiting more of Brooks’ works.

Generational comedy that I have no choice but to love as an adult theatre kid. This movie is is the definition of committing to the bit. Every bit is too long but being that they’re all too long, it’s just right. I love you gene wilder.

Rewatched due to partner not having seen it before and they are a massive Wilder fan! An essential watch and a fun time!

Very goofy. Gene Wilder has a young performance to him, it's weird to say but, when you watch this - you'll see what I mean.

Mel brooks comedy can be a bit hit or miss for me. But this is now one of my favorites I’ve watched of his. I’ve seen the musical and 2005 version before but never watched the original movie and it’s a riot.

Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder are just a great comedic duo (I also love them in the rhinoceros) and they play off each other so well and embody their performances to really fit these characters. And while the plot is a bit predictable it is a hilarious turn of events in the end.

I could not stop laughing at some points specifically in the third act and it’s just a fun riot.
