not every frankenstein movie can be a masterpiece, and frankenstein (2004) is proof. a dark, edgy film with dimly lit set design and a creature/creator rivalry that has lasted for 200 years. oh, and to top it all off, it’s a buddy cop movie.
it’s slow paced and kind of boring for a film about a genetically superior human hunting down people for… well, actually, i’m not sure what. they never really get around to explaining that bit? if the idea for this character is that he commits murders in order to be killed himself, there are so many easier ways to bring about your own death, even if you are a mutated human with two hearts and bones as strong as cement and you can’t kill yourself. the concept is just weak.

you’ve got to be joking. did some angsty teen write this script?
i did really like the part where helios was standing in front of the painting “the anatomy lesson,” i think that was a really neat touch.

This is, without a doubt, the most novel accurate Frankenstein adaptation I’ve ever seen! It took a few liberties, but it’s amazing how much they managed to fit in (and get right!) in the two episodes.
