Broadway director Julian Marsh needs just one more hit show so he can retire and recover his health. It looks like he just may pull it off until temperamental star Dorthy Brock breaks her ankle on the eve of the show's premiere and has to be replaced by her understudy Peggy.

A very archetypal backstage musical which added a new dimension to the genre and spectacularly depicts the hardships of putting on a Broadway show. Not much to say about this one except it's an incredibly bawdy and gaudy representation of musicals meant in the best way possible. Recommended.

The dance numbers at the end of this are one of the reasons I fell in love with movies.
