I initially added this movie to my watchlist because it was referenced in s1 e4 of Better Call Saul "Hero", Howard tells the judge he feels like he would be in the mirror routine with Groucho Marx in respond to Jimmy copying Howard's entire persona.

Now about Duck Soup, it's hilarious. The comedic writing is so genius. Especially Groucho could easily entertain whenever he was on screen. I'm not a big fan of slapstick humour but the mirror scene is perfect.
On top of that the film criticises nationalism, which was a very and still is but especially in the early '30s an enormously important topic. Considering that was the time fascism risen to power across Europe.

One of the wackiest movies I've ever seen,this is all over the place in both a good and bad way.
The jokes tend to land while some bits can get a bit exhausting (the mirror scene for example) it's an interesting movie overall, it's pacing however can get a bit too ADHD'y for my liking.

An immensely surreal and satirical comedy with great political comments for one of the most turmoilous moments in recent history with The Great Depression and Hitler rising to power. Duck Soup was my introduction to the Marx Brothers and how I love them in this! Their farce, slapstick style is done to a perfect level before it becomes obnoxious, especially the mirror sequence which I completely adore, being completely silent and probably the funniest moment in the film. It doesn't take itself too seriously, allowing for entertainment during a gloomy time, yet it simultaneously has incredibly important messaging that's anything but subtle with it starting with political crisis and ending in a war. A genius work in early comedy. Superb!> "I'll teach you to kick me!"
