I stepped on a huge nail with my barefoot when I was like 15. My brother and I nearly passed out when I tried it pull it out. Add this to the other million reasons as to why I am so thankful for the men and women who are braver and tougher than me.
I really cannot fathom the strength it takes to be any of these men--wounded or not. To be stuck in the middle of a minefield, with limbs everywhere and screams cutting through the air, in the middle of a war zone, with only each other to rely on… that’s a type of bravery that deserves to be praised.
This film is very dialogue-focused, very unlike most war films I’ve seen, and because of that it feels more human than almost anything else in the genre. The most “guy friendship” moment imaginable is drawing a dick on your friend’s face after his leg gets blown off. That sentence is outrageous, I know, but it’s also weirdly true. Anyway, I really appreciate the uniqueness of the filmmaking and the commitment to staying true to the real story. Definitely worth checking out if you’re looking to freshen up the war genre.
