Gotta be the most materially successful private investigator in film history, right? Look at his office. His assistant with a fresh dress shirt in a bag. Pay attention to the decor. Golf clubs and model ships. That’s a haircut you maintain. Our boy’s got cheddar.

I think finding a haunted painting of yourself would do that to anyone really. Given all of that.

Fastidious pulp but really sings with a floaty nightmare noir mood, insanely good craft, and an infectious conviction. I just delight in the sets, the wardrobe, the effects obviously. Even if you don’t like the acting, you should see they’re all pitched to the same level. A weird, clipped level. Won’t defend a lesser Richard Band effort - it’s not bad but doesn’t have hooks. I love the direction even if it’s very utilitarian and comic book-y. I think it’s interesting.
