He’s faced crazed scientists! He’s faced hunchbacked assistants. He’s faced a whole damn pitch fork waving, torch bearing village. 

But here ol ‘Frankie baby has meet his most formidable ally ever…Abbott and Costello?!

I was raised on Abbott and Costello but not their movies, the animated cartoon series from the 60s that would play on repeat on ABC in the mornings before school. 

Also my Dungeons and Dragons homie Repeat would often repeat (where do you think he gets  the Nickname?) the ‘Whose on First’ skit endlessly. 

Here Bud and Lou are security guards, tasked with delivering a crate to the monster museum containing not only Frankenstein (Glenn Strange) but Bela Lugosi and Dracula tool! And Lon Chaney is lurking about as the wolf man determined to put a stop to his creature compadres.

This does a good job of mixing Universal monster atmospherics, with some good old fashioned duo comedy. That being said Bud sure is a curmudgeon and his friendship with Lou is borderline toxic! 

Also I totally saw Dracula’s reflection!? Wtf?!

Insanely clean and classy on every cinematic level. From the eye to the soul laughing along. Creative spunk out of a radioactive canister. Where is cinema like this now? Spunk with a capital K on the end. Fun. Truly.

I can’t believe they were able to cram four monsters and two comedians into a movie that ain’t even an hour long and still make it somewhat coherent.

Watch it every Halloween still hits. Perfect cozy spooky comedy universal monster film. The humor still lands today even if outdated it’s refreshing compared to modern humor. Something about that old-school charm like the costume party, suits, voice affectation and dialect. It makes me so happy and comfortable. 

Definitely nice fast pacing. But for me its too fast feels like it goes by in 30mins and not in the best way. Kinda like a universal monsters Tiktok which honestly fits can’t be too mad at it. Would recommend as a Halloween movie. The nostalgia holds a special place in my heart.
