First Time Watch!

I actually really liked this one. Weird to think Tobe Hooper was supposed to direct it. I don’t even see how that would have happened. It’s so very British. Pretty good cast. Simple plot. 

Definitely ripe for a remake.

It’s amazing this movie even got filmed with Oliver Reed and Klaus Kinski in the cast.

I came for Klaus Kinski and the Snake but stayed for Oliver Reed, Nicol Williamson and the Hostage Situation.

Pleasantly subverted my expectations of a straight forward creature feature and ended up being a nice little thriller with plenty of great character actors all in one place.

oliver reed klaus kinski enemies to lovers slow burn bad ending angst. my favorite part was the shot where a sniper blew the head off a black mamba while kinski is getting lit up and flailing it around. 

also have we considered that the asthmatic kid shouldn’t stay in a humid 75 degree bedroom filled with rodents? he’s got hantavirus 😭

I’m having conflicted feelings on this one.

On one hand I think Piers Haggard did some stellar work on this, but learning that he only got the job because Tobe Hooper quit is heartbreaking to me, this probably would have been one of his best! 

Klaus Kinski is an absolute boss as always, but he’s only in it because he turned down Raiders to do this instead! 

In the end though, I just have to be happy with the end product. How could anyone look down on a movie that is, in essence, Snake Die Hard. 

(My first somewhat serious review in a while and I’m doing it for this movie out of everything. This still beats that other Venom movie though)
