Another uncomfortable scene that takes place in a dressing room featuring Saoirse Ronan’s character and her mom and this mom pissed me off so much
I read the synopsis of this one and was so intrigued, but there’s so much to go over in it’s short runtime I think they rush over some things like maybe they explained the whole situation to her but they just started the film at Leanne returning home and it’s information overload for her, especially if you were raised to believe and think a certain way that’s against the status quo.
The flashback scenes helped me get some insight of the general environment and manipulation she was used to before she was brought back “home” and how this sudden change is so overwhelming and scary.
The mom is trying so hard to regain all the lost years with her child but at the same time telling her that the past 17 years Leanne’s life don’t mean anything because it was a mistake, and forcing her to do things that obviously make her uncomfortable basically abducting her life again keeping her on a schedule when she can drink water and eat being trapped in her room.
Did not see that ending coming though but I noticed that when she visited Ben in prison he said he’d rather run the mile than run in place. Then Leanne is given a stationary bike kind of making her think of what Ben said and how he raised her and how Marcy is trying to “re-raise” her.
