Solid film for sure, the ending is definitely one for the ages, you’ll just have to watch it to see what happens because I’m not spoiling it. The best part of this movie is the distrust among the three prospectors and how each one thinks they are going to be robbed by the other. It puts the whole movie on its toes because at any moment, one of the could switch up and kill the others. It also does a great job on character development, I felt like the characters were fleshed out enough and I knew each one’s story and why they wanted the gold. The movie never felt slow or boring, its pacing is on point. My big flaw is the soundtrack doesn’t match the movie very well when it comes to action especially. It just didn’t fit with the vibe of the movie. Extra points to the fact that I didn’t know the quote “badges, we don’t need no stinking badges” was from this. My friends and I qouted that all the time from the movie UHF and blazing saddles, it’s funny to see where it came from. Overall, it’s good but it isn’t perfect, still a fun watch. I would watch again.

I'm glad to know that torturing your actors for no reason is not just a Stanley Kubrick thing

I must say that I am rather surprised at how highly rated this film is in comparison to other westerns that much more deserve to be in the top 500. Either way, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre is definitely an enjoyable watch with an interesting mining plot, fun bandit moments, and relaxed viewing experience. Recommended.

A beautiful film and finally a Bogart film that I love! The plot of this film was so simple but it was so deep with themes, which is what is so great about this film. This film showed how gold can change a person for the worse. It made Dobbs greedy, untrustful of others, and eventually willing to even kill his friend. A great moment was when Dobbs talked about conscience when he thought he killed Curtin and then he killed his conscience as well. The last good part of Dobbs was destroyed then. What so beautiful about this is throughout the film there were these beautiful constrasts. Dobbs who was greedy and just wanted as much good as possible and Curtin who saved Dobb’s life when he was in danger and protecting Howard share of the gold and not taking it for himself. Or the contrast the film showed of what is real treasure. It is a loving wife writing a letter or young little boy. Those things are the real treasure in life. And to cap it all off the film showed how greediness cost Dobbs his life whereas Howard and Curtin who weren’t greedy only lost a few dollars. As Howard and Curtin  laughed they realized how futile and foolish the search for gold is. Not a 5 simply because this film wasn’t perfect. But this  was a truly beautiful film.
