Song at Midnight

“You think I’ve just been pining for a woman the past 10 years” might actually be one of the few mentally stable phantoms out there.

This took me about 3 weeks to finish and did include me watching it in 5 minute intervals, I also watched the first 20mins on my phone so David Lynch would probably kill me. 

I actually really like this take of phantom and I think it’s a lot more reasonable and realistic compared to the shit ALW came up with. That guy was genuinely really ugly but also so was the film quality. The last 10mins were horrifically bad I didn’t see much of anything other than some pixels bouncing around the screen. But let’s not neglect the first 20mins in which I actually saw nothing other than the reflection of my own forehead because it was so dark.

Cool to see what’s basically a Chinese spin on Phantom of the Opera. The shadows and atmosphere are great, but the story drags, and the melodrama doesn’t always land. More interesting as a piece of film history than as a scary midnight watch, but I’m glad I checked it out.
