what’s the point in making a slasher film if the opening kill isn’t stabbing some guy in the dick?? other horror movies need to do better.

An inept 80s teen sex comedy that decided it also wanted to be a slasher — probably because even the director got bored halfway through filming. Points for opening with a dude getting stabbed in the dick before the credits roll (talk about setting expectations), but after that it’s mostly tumbleweeds and awkward acting classes gone wrong.
Still, there’s a certain chaotic charm in watching characters make decisions that feel like they were written by a magic 8-ball. Like the frat guy who apparently thinks breaking into his own party with a knife is the move — then acts surprised when everyone freaks out.
The big “religious twist” lands with all the grace of a drunk sermon, but I’ll admit: the crucifix knife is so stupid it loops back around to being genius. Honestly, that’s the one joke the movie didn’t accidentally stab in the face.

I hate that letterboxd ratings convinced me that this was going to be a bad movie.
Yeah the movie is cheap but I loved it and it fit the cheesy vibe of the film.
The lead female character, Julie, was really smart and strong. The teen characters aren't all that but also aren't boring.
What I really wanna talk about is the themes and messages of the film. The film is clearly dismissed as people think its just another cheap schlocky slasher. And while it undeniably is, the film unintentionally has messages linking to repression and religious authorities and institutions. The school setting with the religious leader allows the film to explore how conservatism is pushed towards younger people and moral panic and repression can lead to violence. The film also briefly touches on how women are treated in patriarchal institutions, especially through the charcter of Julie. Her death at the end could be a bleak message on how women are still smothered by the patriachy no matter how much they try to assert control, something that is still very relevant today.
This is a really great film and all slasher fans need to check it out!

Had to watch again, for some reason I can’t get over this movie. Its vibe feels so unmatched in the 80s slasher genre. Julie is such a fun character and although the budget is low the kills are still good. The ending was kinda predictable but was fun. Def one of my favorites of the 80s after my 2nd watch
