Jesus experiences the common human crisis of begging for even a whisper from God and recieving silence. At least near silence, sans the devil yapping over his shoulder. Away from his loyal band of apostles and unrecognized by the isolated family who shelters him, he's forced to be his mother's son, rather than his father's. This script reads like it was written by a playwright, which I say as a positive. Because these feel like performances that you would see in a live production, espeically Ewan McGregor's, and I think that's the key to grounding Jesus.
