For a film named Destroy All Monsters, they were specifically focused on destroying one monster.

The year is 1999, and Japan has figured out a way to contain all kaijus on a remote island until a race of aliens known as Kilaaks manages to break the gaseous barrier and let them loose on the entire earth, causing the monsters to invade major cities of the world.

I loved the destruction scenes. It was really cool to see some of these monsters wreak absolute havoc on some international cities and not be restricted to Japan. There’s a scene of a city being absolutely wasted, and it was terrifying to see what these monsters are actually capable of. To top it all off, there was a really cool monster bash at the end.

While the film spends way too much time with humans, the human subplot is actually engaging. So, you don’t mind them. We get to see how Kilaaks are controlling the monsters and how superior their technology is that they actually come off as a threat to the entire human race.

The futuristic set design was amazing, and even the look of Kilaaks was cyber camp that it actually holds a certain charm. There were way too many monsters, and some of them just made a quick cameo and disappeared. Some of them didn’t even get a backstory or personality to make us even care about them.
