"I don't care if I'm deluding myself. I just want to lose myself in this happiness."
this movie was SO FUN. i rlly enjoyed the first hana and alice and i was rlly curious too see how this movie was going to turn out and despite my hesitation due to its rotoscoped animation, i actually thought it rlly worked and this movie is just so beautiful, those background images are out of this world. i like how this is a mystery/coming of age whereas the original movie was a romance/drama. the mystery is obviously very absurd and based around very obviously fake rumours but i really enjoyed the vibe of this movie. this movie is probably shunji iwais most lighthearted movie, and i never thought he was going to get more lighthearted that april story but he rlly went all out in this. the soundtrack in this movie is just as good as the original, not better but that ending song is rlly fucking good. idk what it is about this movie but i love it. i rlly like the themes of friendship, self discovery and guilt. the way this movie explored guilt with hanas character was really good and i love how they didn't like make it depressing somehow but they made it into a fun and interesting but absurd thing but it's also rlly realistic, as that's what the mystery resolves around ofc. the animation in this is rlly good, i was so hesitant about the rotoscoping because that also put me off the flowers of evil anime despite my love for the manga, anyway im so glad i watched this. what a beautiful anime and i can tell a rewatch will make me love and appreciate this even more. the ending of this movie is so cute, i love how it ends everything perfectly and sets up the original in a perfect way, i still recommend watching the original live action hana and alice before this as u get a lot of background on both characters and then u notice how different they are in this. i rlly like this movie and shunji iwai truly is one of the most underrated directors of our generation.
good movie
