45 Years is absolutely devastating. After so much time, you'd think you know everything there is to know about your significant other, but life always has other ideas. The film definitely relies heavily on the performances from Charlotte Rampling and Tom Courtenay, especially the former's, which is incredibly difficult to watch at times because the emotions in her body language and facial expressions are just so raw and heartbreaking; I felt physically ill seeing her realisation that she looked similar to Katya. I do have to say that the emotional points of the story are a little formulaic, and the pacing is slow up until the final day, but the atmosphere at all times is incredibly tense, and the soundtrack features some great songs that contrast the breakdown of Kate and Geoff's marriage very well. Overall, not necessarily a film I'd come back to, but definitely one to think about.
