Alright so Godzilla’s really out of character in this one and that’s really obvious. Apparently it was supposed to be Frankenstein’s monster in the roll of Godzilla, then king Kong until both options fell through and they were left with Godzilla. Who is awoken by lightning and has a fascination with a woman two things that have never been a factor for Godzilla before or after this movie. Beyond that what else we have going on? Well ebirah is a giant lobster, mothra makes a cameo, and the infamous giant cinder shows up in the movie. The giant condor whom has a mere 50 seconds or so of screen time and yet lives in the hearts of every Godzilla fan fondly. The human characters are fine enough what I find more interesting with this movie is the concept of a rogue military operation kidnapping people from infant island (mothra’s island and a peaceful place that has in lore made peace with the Japanese people and its culture) and using them as slaves to keep ebirah away while they construct atomic bombs for…. Reasons we never get those reasons but it’s assumed that they’re a rogue group who profits from war. Theres things happening in this movie but they’re never too too interesting. Interesting enough to get by but not nearly as fun as the invasion of the Astro monster or Godzilla vs mothra.
