this went pro platinum in my household until tala started sympathizing with israel but for what its worth, a palestinian x indian wlw movie in the 2000s, with a happy ending AND accepting dads is so amazing.

the premise of this movie had SO much potential and executed it in such a mediocre way. first of all, for a movie that is quite unapologetically itself and deals with intersectionality, it refuses to take a clear stance on palestine (which lost it a lot of points in my book).

my other problems are a lot of technical issues that make it feel poorly executed. the color grading is reminiscent of a basic instagram filter and washes out every brown character (which is everyone btw). the majority of the characters sound like they've been dubbed over. —after a little bit of research, i discovered it was, in fact, dubbed, so now i can confidently say it sounds terrible.— the bad dubbing combined with the slightly awkward and cliche script makes the movie seem more like a wattpad story than a genuine film.

it wasn't all bad. the coming out scenes were heartfelt. and of course the idea is great and has the potential to be iconic— it just didn't make it there. i'd honestly love to see a remake that at least fixes the technical issues (taking a non-centrist or worse stance on palestine might unfortunately be asking too much in this political climate)
