Ima start off by saying this was a lot more enjoyable than I thought it would be. I thought it was gonna be a really pretentious and slow paced story, but it is undoubtedly a Japanese epic trilogy rivalle by no other in the world. The daunting runtime of 3 and a half hours flew by extremely quickly, constantly developing thematic and emotional depth through Kaji's pacifistic humanism towards war. The epic’s amazing plot, acting, cinematography and depth all strike so deep leaving a profound impact on the viewer. Kobayashi is one of the best film directors at linking emotions and themes while continuing to keep the viewer engaged and intrugued. His truly modernistic style of film making allows for this film to feel still completely similar to today, leading to one of the most perfectly paced long films that I have ever watched. Can’t wait to watch the next two. One of the greatest films ever
