i love slashers, and i especially love slashers with the weirdest concepts so it was obvious i’d enjoy this! the idea that an incel that looks like if leatherface and that one dude from house of wax had a child breaks into a house which is constantly broadcasting to p*rnographic websites and the incel kills everyone but no one can help them because they’re locked in and absolutely no one knows where the house even is. it’s like if 80s slashers and big brother collided, and i’m a massive fan of both sooo that’s just a bonus. the webcam (kinda found footage, but also not) mixed with sexploitation and plenty of gore plus interesting kills using really great special effects. another thing that sets it out from other slashers is that it has an amazing, tense build up that really makes the final act even more rewarding, independent horror is such a breath of fresh air as you can see topics shunned and seen as taboo to the public eye, and is also just a lot funner. despite this being independent, it’s really well polished with some really intense acting, unlike the usual woodiness of the genre. ‘loverboy’ despite being an incel who probably lives in his parents basement, is actually quite terrifying : from his big size, his relatively stealthiness and also a creepy mask which again, reminds me a lot of bubba and also, the final girl is extremely likeable and even a bit memorable, which again isn’t seen often wiyhin the genre. it’s plot and set is really well crafted, and it’s sexploitation never feels really distasteful, and it’s surprisingly a lot less misogynistic than what you would think.. it’s gore is great, but also the humour is on point as well. also i started watching this like months ago, and somehow i’ve only finished it now.
