"You may have defeated him with your sword, but you lost the spirit of the sword."
i love samurai movies so much, i don't know if i can ever get sick of them. so far this trilogy has been great, i really enjoyed the first one and i had a fucking great time with this one. along with three outlaw samurai i think this is also the most perfect samurai movie, excluding any kurosawa movie ofc cause he's the goat of movies in general. this movie has been the longest movie i've watched in a while and it's only an hour and 43 mins, which probably says a lot but either way this felt very quick. the story is so engaging and just overall a very solid story. i love how this explores miyamoto as a man who was too blind to his fight skills whether as a man who's humble yet skilful. i love how development throughout the movie and then the man he becomes at the end of the movie. the dialogue is great in this, i really liked the screenplay in general. this trilogy so far has been so colourful, this movie has some amazingly beautiful shots, i loved the way this movie looks and ive seen a certain shot in the last movie that im genuinely so excited for. the show in that one fight that we didn't fully see looked so cool, shame we didn't see the full fight tho. the acting from toshiro mifune was fantastic, he was incredible in this. mifune is slowly becoming one of my favourite actors and i feel like if i watch other samurai movies he's in like samurai assassin or samurai rebellion he'll actually be in my top 5 actors. the ending of this movie sets up the third movie in a melancholic yet beautiful way. the fight at the temple was incredible, i loved the way it was shot and tho i wish there was some blood, i still think it was incredible and i loved what he did at the end that showed his character growth.
great movie
