"One can only smile contentedly after 10 years of pilgrimage."
this might not be the best trilogy i've ever watched, but oh my god it is definitely one of my favourite trilogies ever, i loved this movie so much. i'm being more strict with my ratings this year but oh my god im trying so hard not to give this a 5, i believe that this trilogy is the perfect way to experience a samurai movie. again, excluding any kurosawa movie because his samurai movies are just genius and unbeatable. i really liked the story in this, unlike the last movie this had a really easy to follow story with a very simple structure to it whereas the last one had a very layered story with a weird romance subplot which this movie actually concluded really well in my opinion. i still can't get over how underrated this trilogy is, i only ever seen 1 screenshot of this before i watched it and it was from the duel between miyamoto and sasaki in this movie of them in the beach with the sunrise in the background, which also happens to be the main reason i even watched this and im so fucking glad i did watch this. toshiro mifune, again is just extremely talented. this is probably his best performance, over the course of these 3 movies he has shown that he can play a great character and be able to keep up with the progress that his character is going through and the way mifune changes EVERYTHING about his acting to go along with miyamotos growth is so impressive, like i remember in the first movie he was always jumpy and aggressive, now in this he's so calm and cool it's genuienly amazing how he does it. his body language and facial expressions changed along with miyamotos character growth. musashi miyamotos character arc throughout these movies as a whole has been very interesting, and well executed in my opinion. people say the books were better, but most books are better than the adaptation anyway. the cinematography is obviously incredible, every shot is so fascinating. whether it's the start with that rlly beautiful rainbow/waterfall shot or the ending duel with the sunrise backdrop, this movie and even this trilogy as a whole is just some of the most stunning and impressive shot movies in cinema. that ending is so poignant and beautiful, and i swear all this 3 movie buildup for that was so worth it, i'd watch this over and over if i could.
great movie
