Khalik Allah is the man.
If you’re looking for perspective towards the struggle black men and women face every day then you need to watch this. This movie (along with Khalik’s other work) chronicles the life of the beaten down, the street dwellers, the ones forgotten about. His work isn’t exploitative and you feel the love and heart he has for every person he captures, while still maintaining only being a vessel for capturing. It’s beautiful and it’s heartbreaking. The idea of comparing the people on the street to the field slaves is the driving point of the film. It’s hard to put all of this into words and I apologize if this is rambling. But Khalik’s work gives you more perspective than any angry person on twitter can.
Check out Four Films by Khalik Allah on the Criterion Channel before it leaves at the end of the month and open your mind you’re heart.
