I'm sad that this movie didn't click for me much.
I'll start with the things i enjoyed:
the picture, even though it was pretty, felt cold.. maybe it was meant to show that, even in comforting moments of your life, the coldness of grief is still there. i like to think it that way or else i would've preferred tones a little warmer.
the bond between the sisters that gets stronger throughout the runtime of the movie is cute and i loved seeing actors i liked previously: Kaho from First Love (2022), Ryo Kase from Nobody Knows and Megane, and lastly, Kirin Kiki♡ from Shoplifters, Still Walking and Like Father Like Son.

i wouldn't recommend this movie to someone that is not used to Kore-eda's works, eventually you could watch it, but my expectations were too high so i was disappointed.
felt like a simple slice-of-life and the story not only didn't resonate with my life experience, but also never goes beyond surface level.. the first hour felt a bit pointless (too ordinary maybe?)

with this movie i'm ending my Japanuary 2025 challenge which i did so badly by only watching 6 movies and two series (one of them was also a rewatch..) :( i hate school

there were moments in this film i just wanted to sit and sob. not at all because it was sad but just because i felt so overwhelmed by the emotions the story and characters made me feel. 

also i fully started this bc of kentaro sakaguchi who was in like maybe 3 minutes collectively but im not even upset bc this may be one of my new favourite movies.

Such a soft, warm, melancholic slice of life. I adored each sister, the actresses did a brilliant job of keeping them distinct yet familiar, I believed they were all related.

The fact this was shot on film really helped as it looked great. Again, Kore-Eda really delivers works that leaves you happily sad.
