“Well, what would you say, Miles?”
Wow. This move is amazing, and for some reason every poster for it was complete dogshit. I really didn’t know what to expect going into this movie— I don’t know much about Miles Davis or jazz, I just knew it was a faux-biography that isn’t entirely true.
Visually speaking, this was completely wonderful. The lighting was amazing. The visuals fit the era, and that’s hard to say about a lot of contemporary films. The transitions between present and past were brilliant. There was one switch at the end that looked lazy but other than that, perfect.
Moving into storytelling on that point… literally amazing. I have not seen any movie that’s balanced such frequent flashbacks so well. They always felt relevant and their purpose was clear, but we were still learning new information. Miles and Frances’s relationship was depicted so… heartbreakingly. It felt really real to watch their relationship decline. Every little addition made Mile’s behavior in the present make more sense. Character interactions were fun while still being serious, this movie balanced its comedy well.
Everyone did AMAZING in this movie. The acting was phenomenal. Everyone looked great too. And of course, the music was great. I kind of wish there was more music to be honest, that’s my only gripe in that department.
