just when de palma was going crazy with his thrillers, horrors and crime films, we get this movie outta nowhere. it’s not as bad as the comedies he started off with but i can’t fathom a reason for de palma to make this movie when he was on such a great run.

This is some bum ass. Some real bum ass. It got a few light giggles out of me — church murder and failed hanging being the big haha moments — but as a whole it's not particularly funny nor likeable and, outside of a handful of split diopter shots, you can't even really tell that Brian De Palma had a hand in making this. Makes sense why he disowns it. DeVito is alright here, Piscopo less so, but the two play off eachother well enough that it never dips into pure unpleasantness. Will I ever think about this again though? Not in the slightest.

I like to think that Captain Lou took his scene partner Harvey Keitel aside and gave him a few acting pointers. Mentor to mentee.
