I love seeing how different time travel stories were written before Well’s The Time Machine. Especially in how time travel is possible within the story. In Sziriusz, time travel seems to take longer than other stories. The machine takes literally hours to travel back in time to 1742 from 1942; much akin to air travel in the 1940’s. The film’s practical effects are laughable for 40’s standards, but it makes critical parallels between Hungary’s alliance with Nazi Germany and Hungary’s period of Hapsburg Rule. It seems as if many involved where on board with the criticisms, because many performers of the cast protested many of the rules enforced by the Nazis. Overall, a neat resistance piece of Hungarian Film History, but not necessarily one of the best time travel stories.
