With the school election looming, Linus is talked into running for school president. With Lucy and Charlie Brown as his campaign manager and Snoopy and Woodstock assisting, he stands a decent chance of victory. Soon however, he makes unrealistic promises and learns the hard way that preaching about the Great Pumpkin can not be considered a sound campaign strategy.

Well, it’s Election Day, and it felt timely to watch this early 70s Peanuts special. This was one that I used to see come on all time after the yearly airing of It’s the Great Pumpkin on ABC. I guess they figured that they shouldn’t waste a half-an-hour slot on a completely different day when they could have both air in the same hour slot. Anyway, this was that weird era of Peanuts where Charlie Brown had a huskier, slightly deeper voice that only lasted a handful of these. The issue of using child actors, I suppose.
This is a really surprisingly fleshed-out take on the whole democratic process while still keeping the mainly slice-of-life and reserved style of the other specials. The school the Peanuts kids attend has a TV station, with callers that ramble on and on? There are nominating conventions? What is this school’s budget?
Linus proves to be a promising and honest candidate of change until he spouts an unhinged take, namely the existence of the Great Pumpkin. It’s like the Dean scream of children’s television. I’d still have voted for him. He speaks for the people. Decently entertaining, and feels more realistic to today’s politics.

Ain’t that the truth, Sally. You’re Not Elected, Charlie Brown is a fun little episode about Linus running for class president. Lucy is absolutely hilarious in this because her anger is so justified. Annoying callers who yap and yap, Snoopy and Woodstock doing everything but making voter signs for her, and then Linus nearly blowing his chance at getting elected due to his nonstop talking (that sounds familiar).
This is just a fun episode to watch in honor of Election Day. I also think it’s a good time to remind everyone that whatever happens tonight, we need to be united as a country and as citizens of the greatest country in the world. Politics are unfortunately important, especially for the country we live in, but they’re stupid when it comes to dividing us as a nation. Life is too short to hate and whoever gets elected, we shall treat them with nothing but respect because they will be leading us for four years.
