The Ryries have suffered a loss: the death of a baby just fifty-seven hours after his birth. Without words to express their grief, the parents, John and Ricky, try to return to their previous lives. The couple's children, ten-year-old Biscuit and thirteen-year-old Paul, responding to the unnamed tensions around them, begin to act out in exquisitely idiosyncratic ways. But as the family members scatter into private, isolating grief, an unexpected visitor arrives, and they find themselves growing more alert to the hurt, humor, warmth, and burdens of others—to the grief that is part of every human life but that also carries within it the power to draw us together.

The Grief of Others
Watched this for mike faist without ever seeing any of patrick wang’s other works expecting some pretentious art film with no real meaning but was pleasantly surprised.

it did feel very staged and unnatural at times even with the best actors its kinda hard to really connect to the characters, but i can appreciate the message enough to let that slide.

The Grief of Others
Patrick Wang.. doesn’t work for me 🤷‍♂️
This style of direction just doesn’t work for me. Thought maybe this could’ve been some type of redemption arc for Patrick Wang after I watched that monstrosity that is The Bread Factory.. I guess not, at least this is serviceable just didn’t do much for me.. I almost passed out from boredom.  Still this works better on many levels, especially the run time is amazing compared to his other movies. Still the pacing feels well off. Some good emotional moments, I think this movie ks trying to be funny? It doesn’t work at all.

Overall,
Boring, dead paced and definitely not something I’d recommend sitting through.
