This was weird in a lot of different ways than I expected. In my initial understanding of the film, I thought there would be more psychological thriller aspects, but in the end, I didn't mind the lack of them. While some aspects of the script aged badly, I feel that the slow descent into madness is shown very well. The actors are all incredible and cast almost perfectly, in my mind. The visuals of the film are of the time, but I love them still. The whole thing is extremely atmospheric and does an excellent job of setting the scene and creating a world for its characters. The surgical scene and the last realization at the dinner table are two of my favorite moments in the movie. Overall, odd but enjoyable and well-done.
