Christopher Nolan still had sauce before he took over and revitalized the Batman movies. Insomnia is great. Overlooked Nolan film that keeps you on your toes until the very end. Would love for him to revisit a murder mystery movie in the future. Robin Williams in any serious role gets my attention. RIP to the greatest.

This movie is honestly a gem in my opinion. Everyone’s always talking about Nolan, but I never really see this one brought up. Based on the ratings I expected it to be kinda mid, but I ended up really enjoying this movie.

Insomnia doesn't resemble other action thrillers in the way that it is rather a character study revealing the conflicts of an experienced cop who happens to make a fatal mistake while on duty. Al Pacino is amazing here and very natural. So is Robin Williams, it’s the first time I have seen him play the bad guy and he did incredible. Hilary Swank is also very successful in a supporting role.

The daylight and the insomnia concept which is being emphasized all throughout the movie isn't of course the mere lack of sleep itself, but it is a symbol used to show the type of conflict that Pacino's conscience is going through. The end and the universal message it puts forward is very dramatic and touching and one which I won't be able to forget for a long time.

The atmosphere in this movie is incredible too. The fog scenes especially were so eerie and beautiful at the same time. Alaska feels almost haunting here.

Also that log scene had me stressing.

Definitely one of Christopher Nolan’s most underrated and underappreciated films, Insomnia is done incredibly well, and I found myself constantly questioning what would happen later in the story from the very beginning. The film is consistently entertaining and takes you on a journey full of mystery and suspense alongside the characters. The cast is phenomenal, and the performances are outstanding across the board. Overall, the story is amazing and serves as a great introduction to Nolan’s earlier work, showing the kind of storytelling and directing style he was developing from the start of his career with this being one of his first movies. I’d give the film an 8/10 and would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves Nolan’s work or just hasn’t watched it yet.

This movie is just forgettable, the acting is ok, the cinematography is fine, the plot is predictable, actually scratch that, it's not interesting enough for me to want to predict it. I'm kind of sad to see this is a Nolan movie considering I expected much more, but I guess not all his movies have to be bangers.
