Most of my junior year of college was spent playing poker multiple times a week. It became a molding point of my life, and a primary social outing to look forward to. For that reason alone, California Split is now one of my favorite hangout films. It truly doesn’t get much better than Robert Altman’s direction, Elliot Gould’s 70’s star power, and a deeply stylized approach to gambling addiction all packed into one brilliant masterpiece.
Without a doubt, California Split is my favorite gambling film ever.
