There’s something very Romeo & Juliet about this. Tragic misunderstandings and dramatic irony abound.
Sean Penn had the brooding bad boy with a heart of gold thing down 👌🏼All the performances were excellent and the setting did feel like Boston (which is always a great place for a drama). I liked the sense of dropping in on a community with decades of history that you can only begin to understand over the course of the movie.
The themes of trauma and cyclical violence were interesting but I wish the movie had more to say about them. Also, some plot points felt random for the sake of drama. Like wdym Ray Jr. could talk the whole time but we’re not gonna revisit it?? Wdym Sean’s wife just randomly comes back at the end??
Overall entertaining in a sort of sinister way.
