Shults takes an already familiar concept and takes it to harsher and uglier territory. For a debut, it's impressive how long the tension is sustained even if it becomes a bit too excessive in style in the third act and I find that it doesn't really go anywhere outside of the big breakdown. Despite that, there's a lot of impressive qualities on display despite it's tight budget and those really help make the first two acts quite a trip.
