I’m unapologetic to the fact that I love this movie even though it has a couple flaws, this is still one of my favorite war movies of all time. The story of Desmond doss is timeless and the way it was told in this film is so good. We can start with the negatives though. 1. The boot camp scenes are kind of a bit random. 2. They do kind of skip around and miss certain parts like his medic training and stuff but I can look past that. 3. And probably the one that bothers me most is hacksaw ridge ain’t anywhere near that tall, hacksaw is like 10 feet tall maybe, it should be called hacksaw step to be totally honest, very ant-climatic going in person compared to the movie but hey everything is bigger in Hollywood or something.
Onto the good, the story is just so strong, a contentious objector that won the metal of honor in one of the bloodiest battles of world war 2. The story doesn’t get better than that. The soundtrack is phenomenal. The acting is great, the side characters are interesting and fleshed out. There’s a ton of practical effects which I love, not to mention the set design is also very solid. It definitely does look like a war torn Okinawa. Side note, the corpses are grotesque and maggot filled and they looked fantastic. This movie just had everything, even the story before he joined the war was very solid with finding his wife and confronting his drunken father
10/10 an absolute classic that I’ll never really stop raving about
