Wow. Remick and Lemmon were absolute powerhouses in this movie. The scene where Lemmon absolutely destroyed the greenhouse in order to find the bottle of alcohol felt so raw and realistic, as if I was watching someone close and personal to me do that. I think that this movie did an amazing job at portraying the deep, ugly side of addiction, ESPECIALLY when it comes to how it impacts your children and family. Not only that, it showed the horrific things you can do to even just get a drop of alcohol. When addiction takes over your mind, you’ll do whatever it takes to get your fix. I’m also HAPPY THAT I FOUND MYSELF ANNOYED AT HOW LONG IT TOOK FOR THEM TO FIX THEMSELVES. That’s a good thing! Because recovery is not a linear, easy, short process. It can take people years. It can take so many setbacks to get to the point of being fully sober. Gosh, this movie was incredible.
EDIT: Not to mention, I HAVE seen so many relationships like theirs. Couples who become codependent on each other and who end up destroying themselves over their shared addiction, whether it be to alcohol or some other sort of drug. Gosh it was so jarring!
