On screen, to fight and to dance are two halves of the same coin. A well choreographed fight is something magnificent to behold, and 8 Diagram Pole Fighter has the most beautifully choreographed fights I have ever had the pleasure of beholding.

Edited to say that it's not just the fights. Every scene is perfection. From the colours, to the costumes, to the performances, to the synchronisation.

Absolutely stunning, all around. Absolute cinema.

Very fun film with great fight scene and an epic story, full of betrayl, honor and loyalty. The choreography feels very unique and the opening scene is by far one of the best examples. A nice journey about revenge in a overall fun genre.

If you’re ever looking for a film[s] you can shut your mind off and have a great time with, I recommend anything made by The Shaw Brothers. The 8 Diagram Pole Fighter has been on my watchlist for quite some time, and it is just as good as I was hoping! Some really well choreographed fights and cheesy over the top moments made this a very overstimulating, yet fun watch to start my day!

Whilst The 8 Diagram Pole Fighter was impressive throughout, it didn’t move me. That was until the final 20 minutes, and my goodness, the action that follows is unlike anything I’ve seen. The coffin set piece alone is a contender for the coolest sequence on film, and the ensuing final battle is highly entertaining. The level of athleticism and skill on display is genuinely difficult to comprehend. 

The restoration on MUBI looks great: it’s really vibrant with the colours popping off the screen, giving me something to enjoy during the films slower periods. 

I also found myself wishing the 8th sister had a larger role. I thought she was a great presence, both in combat and in the more dramatic moments.

Ultimately I’m unsure how to grade a film that I really wasn’t on board with, until witnessing what can only be described as one of the greatest action sequences of all time. That alone might just be enough to have won me over.
