god damn hedy lamarr looks good.
hollywood’s obsession with sparkle has always been loud but ziegfeld girl screams it in high heels and rhinestones. the film is a glitter-drenched fever dream of fame, fashion, and falling apart, but it doesn’t quite trust its own darkness.
all three women have arcs that flirt with tragedy, but the movie’s too busy showing off feathers and champagne towers to let those stories breathe. judy garland is magnetic and hedy lamarr is stunning, but you can almost feel her checking out mid-scene.
and lana turner’s character? hmm, i think she’s the only one who gets a full spiral, and it's honestly the most compelling part. it says something that a film this obsessed with beauty ends up being the most honest when it shows it all falling apart.
it was kind of worth the watch but i expected better pacing from this whole film.
