I showed this to some friends, and we had a good discussion about it afterwards. Haynes is incredibly a displaying a liminal, almost alien space with great characters. Carol White embodies the anxiety of those who are manipulated by the world around them. Julianne Moore gives her best performance here, in my opinion, as she deeply understands this character. Haynes' directing, writing, alongside stellar sound design and cinematography captures the emptiness of suburbia, house wife culture, the AIDS epidemic, and a world slowly turning in on itself.

why did this movie make me sneeze multiple times... 😨 i'm deeply obsessed with lester. we literally see him twice in the whole movie but his strange stalking gait, his fully covered body, and his constant eye contact gets me. he's always circling. the disease is always circling. i feel like this is something i'm just so much more hyperaware of post-covid and it sucks that our society has never been able to truly learn a full lesson from the over a million people who have died of it LOL. just don't think about it or talk about it or acknowledge it and it'll be fine! you're safe!
