My god, where do I even begin with this movie?
Let’s start at the top with this: This movie is the WORST.
Worse than Caliban Cove, which has now retroactively become a two-star story. This movie put me to sleep at least three times, though I hoped my Australian girlfriend didn’t notice. In fact, having someone you love watch it with you—especially when she has a cute Aussie accent—is its one saving grace, and I can’t imagine that’s what Masayuki Ochiai had in mind, so I refuse to give him credit for that.
So what exactly is wrong with this movie?
I don’t know—I guess I’m just upset it’s a prequel to the game by Square Enix.
Square Enix and Capcom blew their loads too quickly when it came to making games, especially during the PS1 and PS2 era. The next Parasite Eve game is the first, the second one is just a Resident Evil clone, and the third is great, but it’s a PSP exclusive. The Third Birthday is such a good title for a book or movie.
Capcom peaked with RE4 and DMC3 on the PS2.
The funniest thing about this movie is that about 34 minutes in, it hits us with the classic “my dead wife, oh, I miss her so much” flashback. I couldn’t stop laughing.
