There are numerous downfalls of this film but most noticeably the performances just fall flat, never mind the blatant sexism woven throughout the film and it’s script. ( It is a film of it’s time however, so it should recieve some amount of leeway). Even Lamarr is not her usual shining beacon, instead her performance is bland. The film all around drifts along to amount to nothing with a plot line I’ll hardly recall in two weeks.
P.S. There is a line which describes Lamarr as pretty as a picture, but stubborn as a mule. Although this is meant to be a dig at her for actually being her own woman and not complying to conformity (which spoiler she does in the end), at this time, if I were described as such by a man I would know, I’m doing something right.
Addition: I chose two random classical Hollywood films to watch this week. Is it a coincidence that both lead actress try to commit suicide 20 minutes into the film? Hmmm
