"Next to a battle lost, the saddest thing is a battle won."
In a spectacular demonstration of resources and coordination, "Waterloo" assembled 16,000 soldiers on a battlefield, complemented by the construction of eight kilometers of roads, the replanting of 5,000 trees and the establishment of fields covered with rye, barley and sunflowers. This was done alongside the careful reconstruction of historic buildings and the laying of ten kilometers of underground irrigation systems for sludge production. And all this for the epic battle between Napoleon Bonaparte and the allied forces under the command of the Duke of Wellington. The organization required to coordinate such a project is almost unimaginable, but you can't expect anything but utter greatness from Bondarchuck
Very similair to War And Peace, which is what I both expected and wanted, but the performances here stuck out as particularly incredible amongst all else. Don't get me wrong, this is still an unbelievable film with many sequences that could easily be some of my favourites from any war film, but man every single actor blew me away here. Not to mention the look of this thing too, just magnificent. Weird how this isn't talked about often, or even as often as War And Peace. Incredible filmmaking.
I don't think we will ever see another film like this and War and Peace because of CGI. Look at Ridley Scott's Napoleon, it just doesn't feel real like this does, and it does not show how crazy Napoleon really was and how he just wanted more and more. The cinematography, dialogue and soundtrack of this film are just incredible, it is extremely well made and shows how disgusting these wars are, which Ridley Scott's movie didn't. This is truly one of the greatest films of all time, they should show this in school.
Really want to play total war games but I’ve got exams😭🥀
