My All-American mostly plays out like most sports dramas, but the solid acting from Wittrock and Eckhart and the likability of their characters make this a slightly above-average film for the genre. The emotional aspects of the film work really well; I definitely got teary a couple of times near the end. The football aspects of the plot were pretty standard, but they do their job at making us care about Freddy.
