Essential Em Canon Viewing.

“If Re-Animator was a homo sapien, The Brain That Would Not Die was it’s neanderthal ancestor.”* -quote I said, mid way through the movie, that Jared informed me has to go in my Letterboxd review.
The physical comedy of this movie is so much fun, holy shit. The placement of the roman busts throughout the laboratory, the genuine monotone by the main doctor, the under-complicated electricity/blood/serum set up. It doesn’t get better than this. (Except it does. With Stuart Gordon’s Re-Animator)
Also - maybe feminist critique? Not clear if it’s done on purpose, but wholly interesting. I feel there is untapped potential for a female victim of a Frankensteinian crime and her bitter feelings towards being alive and now “grotesque”. I'm so glad that this movie hones in on it, her revenge, and the complicated feelings of being forced to live.
