Prisoners of the Land weaves several short stories into a single narrative to mixed results. A lot of it is a lot more seamless than one would initially assume and that alone is a fantastic feat, but it also helps how beautiful the film is at parts. The way that language is used especially is a nice treat, even if only minimally. The class struggle of the working man underneath wealthy foreigners reminds me a bit of Italian neorealism.
Ultimately, there are tender moments of this film that just make me tear up and the way that the drama ramps up towards the end is rather engrossing, even if the road to get there can be a little bumpy at times
